Midas was a king in ancient Greek mythology, famous for his incredible wealth and his ability to turn everything he touched into gold.

According to legend, Midas was granted a wish by the god Dionysus, and he chose to have the power to turn anything he touched into gold. At first, Midas was overjoyed with his newfound power, and he went around touching everything he could find, turning it all into gold.

Yeah, because that's exactly what you want, right? To turn your favorite snacks, your BFF, and even your cat into gold.

At first, Midas was like, "Yaaas, I'm the king of the world! Everything I touch turns to gold!" But soon, he realized that having the Midas touch wasn't all it was cracked up to be. He couldn't eat, drink, or even give his daughter a hug without turning her into a golden statue. But he could sell her! In fact if she was as fat as she perceived herself to be, she'd be worth a mint...

Midas eventually became so miserable that he begged Dionysus to take away his power. The god agreed, and Midas was able to return to a normal life.

The story of Midas has become a cautionary tale about the dangers of greed and the importance of appreciating what we have. It's also where we get the phrase "the Midas touch," which means to have the ability to turn anything we touch into gold.
