This Is What My Search History Looks Like: A Digital Arson

I’m not an academic. I failed college twice—once spectacularly. No university could feed my curiosity fast enough. My mind’s in relentless pursuit of the next Eureka moment—diving headfirst into quantum theory, theology, soul-searching mysteries, everything. It’s the stuff you don’t learn in classrooms—at least not without years of prerequisites I don’t need and time I don’t have.

For thirty years I’ve devoured physics books so thoroughly I now skip to the end when I buy a new one. Quantum theory—the living, shifting frontier—is where science actually ends, and damn, it’s dazzling. The Goldilocks Zone, the Fine-Tuning Argument, String Theory, M-Theory—these are where all the pieces almost fit. It’s all math, and it keeps mutating as we close in. Sometimes I fear we’ll end up with nothing but a wide-angle snapshot of the Big Bang—and then the atheists are stranded, because that’s where mathematics goes to die. Nobody seems to care, but I do. I report from the front lines.

I use the internet the way it was meant to be used—an endless encyclopedia I dreamed of as a kid. I’m not a scholar, but somehow I’m trending in the top 0.1% on Academia.edu—266 million users, a few months in. It’s humbling as hell. That’s where you go when you actually want to understand something. Groundbreaking theses, ancient archives, new discoveries—all delivered instantly. It’s the mental Amazon, and I’m shopping every damn day.

I found this scholarly world when my books hit a dead end. I started reading footnotes, sneaking in through academia’s back door, leaving my signature-style graffiti behind. I annoyed some folks so much I got blocked; one even tried to get me kicked off the platform. I never fit in like a puzzle piece in someone else’s grand tapestry. My papers aren’t “standard,” but I keep pushing. I can do more collective research in an afternoon than a monastery could do in a year—all thanks to the internet and a restless mouse hand. I can sometimes write fifteen to twenty hours a day, fueled by insomnia, sim-racing, and a relentless hunger to know more. Insomnia’s an irritant—but a productive one.

When a question grabs me—like, “What do programmers think about the future of hacking?”—I don’t let go. I dissect it, chase it through rabbit holes, step into the digital halls of INTERPOL, CERN, NASA, the Vatican—virtually, of course. Words leave fingerprints, ignite fires, and I walk away, summing up what they do in a 500-word essay I have no credentials to write.

My mind was forged in solitude. I grew up without a TV, so I devoured encyclopedias and dictionaries—cover to cover, over and over. Maybe that’s now considered child abuse, but it forced me to imagine the world instead of consuming it. It was like baking apple pie from the Fruit of Knowledge.

Recently, I scrolled through my search history. I’d never looked before—and never deleted it. And I swear: this is what the internet was made for. Not shopping, not doomscrolling. This is a decade of self-education, a bonfire of curiosity.
