William Clark Styron Jr won international literary awards for his work on depression. Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Madness was originally a lecture delivered to the John Hopkins University School of Medicine and later released as a critically acclaimed essay on Vanity Fair in 1989. Describing the indescribable is how Styron describes depression. The literary quality of Darkness Visible is superb.[1]
