Eliezer Wiesel was a writer, professor, political activist, Nobel Laureate, and Holocaust survivor. Night, a work based on his experiences as a prisoner in the Nazi concentration camps.
To my knowledge, there is only one human race but considering Elie's history this is obviously a reference to the Nazi campaigns of Jewish extermination. Point taken.
I must say, universal indifference extinguishes any and all embers of individuality. The contradiction at play is the surreal imagery that captivates our collective ideal of liberty and suspends this cultural entity for personal gain and advantage.
