The Actors are Not Center Stage

Should Science as a whole take priority over any and all projected or anticipated appeals to authority? As a priming forme of humility, a mental warm-up exercise if you will, I pair the appeal to authority fallacy with the most proven and reliable forme of thought that we have as a species and by doing so would like you to consider the following point; prominence within the field, intellectual heroes and the desire for validation from your peers are powerful drivers towards accomplishment. If the actors don't take the center stage we negate the protagonist in the story. This may or may not be good, What are your thoughts?
