Message to the Reader (forewords)

The word planksip® is a tribute to the 1918 Nobel Prize recepient Max Planck. Planck's lifelong dedication to the persuit of science and his personal persuit of Physics was, for me, very inspirational. I constructed a metaphorical likeness between the concept of energy quanta and the propagation of thought. The quanta, or packet of energy, that the individual thought represents, is the rubric of reality unique to human consciousness. Pluralistic by praxis, the p.(x) philosophy is all inclusive of ALL thought and thinking. This philosophy is algorithmic and increasingly deterministic in nature. Whether the propagation is fractal or sequential, the shift from causation to correlation is amoung us.

Cogito ergo sum - René Decartes

The P.(X) philosophy is a collection of my philosophical perspectives. My second book, and Literary Fiction title Will Free Man is considered the companion to this philisophical non-fiction read with the added leitmotif of Artificial Intelligence. My third book, The Quote Book was inspired by the dream of Walter Benjamin and a Big Data algorithm. Propagated by planksip®, The Quote Book compiles the quotes of hundreds of authors, the selection process for publication is unique and driven by data. For more information on this book and the praxis to propagation visit online version of the Preface.

The p.(x) philosophy accounts for ALL. This means everything must be taken into consideration including, and especially time. Without time our precious consciousness would fade to nothingness. Of course, no title in philosophy would be complete without relating our uniquely human concept of time to the reality of this universe. I expand and examine much on various concepts of time. All in due time my friend. All in due time.

From a mathematics standpoint I attribute the concept of the planksip® philosophy to Robert Recorde. He unknowingly invented the philosophy in 1557 with two, "equal" parallel lines. Somewhat of a revival of Leplace's Demon, the examination and subsequent correlation goes much, much further. Just as his Mécanique Céleste is an elaboration and extension, I too am standing on Newton's Giants, demystifying the demon and reexamining what "it" is makes a life worth living in a world of Big Data Determinism.

To Causation and Beyond

If we want to move beyond causation we should first discuss cause and effect and if you want to understand ANY cause and effect relationship a good place to start is with dependency. Consciousness, for example, is dependent on the nervous system. Without a nervous system, no human being on this planet (or any other planet) would have a consciousness. Period. From a theological standpoint, you can continue to read this book without conflict to the above statement. Let's take another example. If I were to say that Isaac, Ishmael, Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah were all dependent on the existence of Abraham no one would or could (for that matter) disagree. Without Abraham, HIS children would not exist (obviously). Without Abraham, there would be no Jesus or Mohamad and therefore no Christian, Muslim or Judaic religion. Period. Is there any difference between the nervous system example and the one on religion? Each reader might have a slightly different viewpoint, and that's ok. This book is not for everyone. I am professing my allegiance and partisan support to the side of Reason and Science with the following caveat; theology and religions of the past, present and future were, and continue to be, important in shaping the reality that we process and consume. I am often alone in my lighthouse of thought looking for connections and correlations of the messianic. Rest assured my curiosity and motives are not faith-based.

Back to dependency. Dualism is dependent on dogma, the effect of which is Religion. A monistic dependency destroys the doctrine of dualism. The validity of certain thoughts ultimately collapses under the pressure and reason and logic, especially in a society losing it's attention space and decending down the slippery slope of hedon. Does that mean that dualism was without value? Dualism was synonomous with the development of Decartes's monumental meditations yet later destroyed with Neitzche's mountains of metaphysics. Did Neitzche depend on Decartes?

Some Basic Terms

For the purpose of this book I feel it necessary to clarify the definition of Consiousness and Big Data Determinism.

  • Consciousness - Consciousness exists within ANY constructed entity that reacts to a stimulus. The degree of consciousness experienced is directly related to the degree of the resulting reaction, putting consciousness on a spectrum.

With the addition of Big Data, discussions on Quantum realities and the increasing importance of correlation the traditional meaning of determinism requires an update.

  • Big Data Determinism - Big Data Determinism represents the potentiality of and progression towards a deterministic human reality void of any implied dystopian or utopian ideology. Big Data determinism is a bridge between the Data that defines us and the irrelevant nature of Adequate determinism.[1]

Laplace and Two Parallel Lines

"It is therefore obvious that Laplace created the equals sign." - Dr Cory Elliot, MD, PhD - a cameo compliment to Pierre-Simon Laplace.

Or did Laplace invent the equal sign? Invention versus creation, which of the two terms are correct? The answer is both! Let me add something to this rather limiting perspective. Imagine looking out at a horizon of water and sky, seeing for the first time in months the familiar sight of land in the distance. Land ahoy! You no more discovered it than invented it; you were just the first person in your vessel to see it. The notoriety for the arrival goes to the vessel's Captain as he was the acting head of vessel and ultimate decision-maker in this mind-metaphor. Individual autonomy may not be credited to anything more or less than the ego (vessel) itself. Together we experience consciousness. Experience data is important and relevant to the point at hand. If the definition of the ego changes or is changing, we can, like any other field of scientific study, track the changes over time and look for patterns the emerge.

The difference between creation and invention is connotative, and the totality of this difference effects our individual and collective consciousnesses.

A little boy looking into the vast ocean of truths, recognizing his name on the ocean breeze. We should all be that little boy!

The future framework of consciousness is functional in that it provides an arena of awareness, a Colosseum for the games Wittgenstein called language. The evolution of human consciousness directly correlates with humanities changing concept of time and the collective collection of influences from the outside world.

Lets break it down.

Consciousness Defined

  • Consciousness - Consciousness exists within ANY constructed entity that reacts to a stimulus.

Popular amoung contemporary philosophers and scientists is the view that an individual's conscious experience is nothing more than the result of brain and bodily functions. This is functionalism. Considering Nigel Thomas's essay Zombie Killer and his flawed perspective that in a post-apocoliptic world functionalism is false. Now consider a recently deseased actor or actress in a popular zombie AMC series, The Walking Dead. The transformation to zombie state happens throughout the show, essentially, a dormant "zombie" disease matastizes and transforms the recently deceased into a re-animated flesh eating monster. This is a diminished state of fictional consiousness. What is a diminished state of consciousness? For the purpose of this book, consciousness exists is ANY constructed entity that reacts to a stimulus. Essentially if the given entity can sense it's outside envirnment and then react to this stimulus consciousness is present. Of course this not a mainstream definition. The reason for my modifiction prevents future ambiguienties and sharpens my points. As a reader, if you have any heightened scence of sense of skeptisim you are projecting what Kierkegaard called, "wounds of negativity", of which I will fend off over the course of this book. Write to me in opposition if and only if you read this book in it's entirity. Its important to redefine consciousness in this way to gain greater insight into the view and possibilities of the planksip® philosophy.

Entity Defined

Entity is a very important word in the planksip® definition of consciousness. The planksip® definition of consciousness is again, ANY constructed entity that reacts to a stimulus. The planksip® definition of entity harbours no modified meaning. An entity, by popular definition, is any person, place or thing with a distinct and independent existence.

On a large scale, a solar system is an entity. On a macro scale and entity could be atoms and subatomic particles. Is the milkyway or quantum packet an entity? Yes. Are they conscious? By our definition, yes!

The reason for a scaling back the definition of consciousness is because of the contentious state of this discussion. It is not my intention to add to the angst, rather reset to a common understanding of input and output. As mentioned earlier consiousness exists in varies degrees. Self awareness is exists as an important milestone in the evolotionary of sentient beings yet very much documented and understood, especially in the field of childhood psychology.

  1. Adequate determinism is the idea that quantum indeterminacy can be ignored for most macroscopic events. This is because of quantum decoherence. Random quantum events "average out" in the limit of large numbers of particles (where the laws of quantum mechanics asymptotically approach the laws of classical mechanics). - Wikipedia ↩︎
